MicroCoal Inc. ("MCI") upgrades low-rank coals to match the energy levels of high-rank coals and reduce fuel input costs, while simultaneously decontaminating coal for use by power utilities.
-
- MCI has developed a transformative and patented technology successfully piloted at Hazen Research Inc., in Golden, CO, USA;
-
- Offers coal-fired utilities significant economic, environmental and operational benefits that greatly increase bottom line returns;
-
- Lowers fuel costs, substantially reduces GHG emissions and generates carbon offsets;
-
- Global coal consumption is currently 6 billion tonnes/yr, of which 1.1 billion tonnes is used by the US, making it a US$ 35 billion market;
-
- In negotiations to construct the first commercial plant on a site at a major utility in the US;
-
- Is focused on expansion in the US market but is seeing significant demand for its technology from China, India and Europe; and
-
- Will leverage macro trends in the energy sector by making coal a cleaner, more efficient fuel source.
MCI Process
Microwaving coal evaporates moisture and increases Btu/lb, while at the same time facilitating chemical reactions that reduce contaminant and impurities found in coal. This allows low rank coal to burn cleaner and more efficiently, reducing the need for expensive Flue-gas desulfurization (FGD) scrubbers that remove pollutants from exhaust fumes released to the atmosphere.
